African Star 2 is sold out.
September 1 to 5, 2009
Londolozi Game Reserve, South Africa
After the wonderful experience we had at the first African STAR, we're even more excited to offer African STAR 2 this coming September.
This event is an amazing opportunity to re-awaken your essential self. The connection to nature, to the birthplace of the human species, and to the incredible array of wildlife, seems to open a direct conduit to what's most elemental in each human. When they arrived, our STAR participants chatted about "going back to the real world." After 5 days in the African wilderness we all knew, "This is the real world." And we were prepared to begin bringing home--the beauty and power of nature--back to the family of humanity.
The driving force behind the STARs is a passion for healing the earth, as Londolozi was healed (it was once farmed-out desolation, now a wilderness as lush and beautiful as it must have been 10,000 years ago). But the transformation of self is fundamental to the transformation of the world. As my South African coach and guide Boyd Varty puts it:
"The essence of rebuilding Eden is to respond to the feelings so many of us experience: the pains of the world, an aloneness and underlying state of grief. STAR retreats address this by reaching first inward, to the soul, then outward to the rest of the universe. How can we end the destruction of the world before we have ended the destruction in ourselves? How can we heal what is around us before we heal what is within us? All you need to change the world is a connection to your own magical energy. We will show you how."
Of course, it doesn't hurt that Londolozi has sumptuous rooms, food, and service (including a fabulous yoga instructor).

We STAR folk alarmed the impeccable staff by bending silverware with our energy, but other than that, things at camp were remarkably civilized. Except, now that I think of it, for the baboons that managed to pick the lock on one guest's room and go through her luggage (there are baboons in Londolozi right now wearing her thongs), and the hyena that livened up a gourmet dinner by zipping into the dining area and making off with a hunk of cheese. (She does this a lot. The staff refer to her as "the Gorgonzola female.")
So all right, it wasn't quite as civilized as, say, Buckingham Palace. But oh, was it full of wonders! There were awe-inspiring encounters with elephants, lions, and leopards. A baby zebra freaked out his herd by joining a group of STAR adventurers who were broadcasting "mellow horse" energy. All of the adventurers broke through internal barriers that had disconnected us from true nature: our own nature, and that of the land, plants, and animals. They expressed a deep desire to connect with the people of the area, to help develop a healthy human population that leaves a gentle footprint on the land.
So, if you've never felt yourself come home, really, deeply home, come back with us to the ancient roots of your being. Sign up for the STAR--and do it soon; spots are very limited!
