Objects in Mirror are Closer Than They Appear

This painting is a visual pun. It's what I see as I drive our dog Bjorn to the park for his daily walk, an event he treats as though it's the Second Coming. Kuan Yin (Goddess of Compassion)

I painted this during a time in my life when I felt intense pressure and conflict coming from people around me. It was a meditation that kept me feeling peaceful and loving rather than antagonistic. The pattern around Kuan Yin is a "tessellation," a series of geometric forms that can be subdivided at any scale, as I believe the mystical aspect of humans can be. My first horse-whispering workshop expanded my world more than I ever expected. These animals are truly love on the hoof, and this particular horse-not a handsome animal by horse-show standards-accepted me completely, in all my beginner's clumsiness. Portrait of Adam

Before my son was born, I had dreams in which he'd explain to me why he was showing up on this planet, in a body with Down syndrome. These dreams were filled, inexplicably, with images of Africa, especially African animals. Decades later, I ended up in Africa communing with the real-life versions of my dreams. The half of Adam's face in light is his physical self at age 20; the dark side incorporates the immensity and strangeness I see as his inner being. Dreams really do, literally, come true.
