About this episode

Sleep: it’s not just for wimps and sissies. Until Martha and Ro dug into the topic of this podcast—the innocent little universal need for SLEEP—they didn't realize how much of a cultural minefield sleep is. There is SO MUCH sleep-shaming going on. They discuss the science of sleep and all the ways that the culture is WHACK on this topic. Sleep makes us learn, makes us smarter, makes us heal, makes us competent humans. And yet, the story that “sleep is for the weak” endures. We have to come to our senses!

Show Notes

Sleep: it’s not just for wimps and sissies.

Some cultural-message minefields are easier to spot than others. It wasn’t until we dug into the topic of this podcast—the innocent little universal need for SLEEP—that we realized just how monstrously culture wants us to warp our natural sleep needs.

There is SO MUCH sleep shaming in our culture. What is this macho crap?

As two confirmed insomniacs, we feel qualified to discuss the bizarre torture of being shamed for natural sleeping patterns. True, we may be too groggy to talk sense about it, but WE WILL TALK!

We discuss the science of sleep (because gathering information is part of coming to our senses) and all the ways that the culture is WHACK on this topic. Sleep makes us learn, makes us smarter, makes us heal, makes us competent humans. And yet, the story that “sleep is for the weak” endures.

Sometimes, our role as The Bewildered is to step forth into the culture and begin telling a different story. That’s what we’re urging in this episode.
